Choosing the right kind of lobster

Our markets carry a large selection of lobsters and lobster meat to suit any cooking or taste needs — so how do you know what type of lobster or part is right for what you need? The answer depends on what you’re making or how you want to prepare it, what kind of flavor or texture you’re looking for, and price point. Read on for the breakdown.

Whole Live Lobsters are available year-round and can be found in lobster tanks at each of our markets. If you stop by Exton, be sure to say hi to Sheldon. 

Lobster Claws and Meat are typically available year-round. These cooked and frozen options are perfect for lobster rolls, homemade lobster bisque or stock (hang onto those shells!) or as a key ingredient in recipes like for lobster ravioli.

Our creamy Lobster Bisque is a crowd-pleaser and is always available in our grab and go case.

Lobster Tails

Canadian cold water lobster tails are a wonderful all-around option. These sweet and succulent tails are sourced from Gaspe, Canada at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River in northeastern Canada.

Brazilian lobster tails are warm water-harvested from the coastal waters of Brazil between May and January. It is a more cost effective option with a sweet flavor.

South African lobster tails are considered by many to be the best in the world and are limited in quantity due to strict harvesting regulations.

Due to availability, sweetness of the meat, and cost effectiveness, Canadian lobster tails are a wonderful all-around option. Our tails are sourced from Gaspe, Canada at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River in northeastern Canada.

Cooking Method: Lobster tails are best baked or broiled and served with warm drawn butter.

Cracked Whole Lobsters (cooked, cracked, cleaned): $3 per lobster
